Manchester City fans are an expectant bunch and they are anticipating a strong showing in the transfer market and it’s safe to say that if the start they have made is anything to go by, everyone in the Transfer Tavern can expect a busy summer from Pep Guardiola in this window.
The Portuguese playmaker, Bernardo Silva, has already arrived through the doors of the Etihad Stadium and he looks to be joined by Brazilian goalkeeper, Ederson in a deal that has all but been confirmed by Pep Guardiola.
There has also been many defensive departures from the Etihad in Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy and the City fans in the Tavern are yearning for high quality replacements in order to make their side harder to break down among their attacking flair.
They believe attracting this quality should not be hard and they believe that the attraction of Guardiola and Champions League football will bring the very best defenders to their club and cannot wait to see which deals are sealed this summer.
Our landlord has joined in the debate and he has also been speculating over which defenders the Citizens should make a move for this summer, and some juicy names have occurred among the discussion.
With that said, let’s take a look at the two defenders that will be on City’s radar early this summer…
There is much debate in the Tavern over whether or not City should sign Mendy from Monaco or look in the Premier League and swoop for Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand as they look to fill the left back position.
Our landlord believes the 22-year-old Mendy will be Guardiola’s preferred option as he looks to build a younger, exciting side although our resident Citizens in the Tavern would be happy to see Bertrand join the club.
One thing is for sure, both left backs are quality additions and City fans can expect a high quality full back in their side next season.
City look to have been priced out of Virgil van Dijk but the quality of Leonardo Bonucci is surely something Guardiola cannot ignore.
Our landlord believes Bonucci will be looking for a new challenge this summer and the chance to work with Guardiola may be one he cannot refuse.
If Bonucci joins, he will have John Stones, Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi as his defensive colleagues and if that isn’t strength in depth, we at the Transfer Tavern don’t know what is.
