Chelsea’s 2018 transfer of Jorginho proving to be worth far more than what the Blues paid

In 2018, beat Premier League rivals Manchester City to the signing of Jorginho for a fee worth up to £50m (via BBC).

It was a deal that saw the Blues reinforce their midfield and the Brazilian-born midfielder grew stronger and stronger as the season carried on.

It eventually ended with the west London giants reaching the Carabao Cup final, thumping rivals Arsenal in the Europa League final and qualifying for the Champions League, worth an estimated £13.2m just for playing in the competition. Further money is offered for a win (£2.3m) and a draw (£776k) as well as £8.2m for reaching the last-16 (via The Express).

That means altogether Jorginho’s contribution this year can possibly earn the Stamford Bridge side an eye-opening £28m, of his £50m transfer, if they beat Lille in their final group game and qualify for the last-16.

In terms of statistics, Jorginho has shown his ability in the deep-lying midfield role, performing valiantly both defensively and attacking-wise. He averages the second-most tackles and interceptions as well as the most passes per game for Frank Lampard’s side (via WhoScored).

This has culminated in Jorginho’s market value being increased on Transfermarkt to £58.5m and looking at his contribution to winning trophies and performances, you’d say it is a fair reflection of the 27-year-old.

Chelsea fans, what have you made of Jorginho since his move to west London last summer? Let us know your thoughts!
